I’m teaching the saxophone and clarinet since 2008, to students of all levels. Currently I’m working in The American school of the Hague and in Dordtse music school and privately in my studio or even through Skype. Besides that, I often travel giving workshops and teaching jazz ensembles in Greece, Spain, France and of course Holland.
My focus in the lessons is to go to the direction of the student’s interest, so I don’t use a certain method, but I do different things with everyone. From classical to jazz and from rock and pop to latin. I think that musicians are always self-taught. The only thing a teacher can do is infect you with the love for music, inspire you and show you how to teach yourself.
I give a lot of importance in rhythm, because that’s the element that transforms sound into music and when you learn to use rhythm, everything sounds musical and is more fun to do. Even scales.
I also like to teach young kids, from the age of 5, to give them an introduction to music, in a playful way. I use the blokfluit for that, which is an excellent instrument to start into music.

Saxofoonles in den Haag / Zoetenmeer
Hallo! Ik ben Thanos, saxofonist, componist en docent en sinds 2001 woon ik in Nederland. Ik ben afgestudeerd op het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag met een bachelor en master in jazz saxofoon.
Momenteel geef ik saxofoon les in de ‘American school of the Hague’ en de Dordtse muziekschool. Daarnaast reis ik veel voor het geven van workshops en lessen aan jazz ensembles in Griekenland, Spanje, Frankrijk en natuurlijk Nederland.
Mijn lessen richten zich op de interesses van de leerling, waardoor ik geen vaste methode gebruik en met iedereen iets anders doe. Van klassiek tot jazz en van rock en pop tot latin. Ik denk dat muzikanten altijd zelf geleerd zijn. Het enige wat ik als docent kan doen is jou aansteken met de liefde voor muziek, jou inspireren en je laten zien hoe je het jezelf kan leren.
Ik verg veel aandacht voor ritme, omdat dat het element is wat geluiden transformeert in muziek. Wanneer je ritme leert te gebruiken, klinkt alles muzikaal en wordt het leuker. Zelfs toonladders. 🙂
Ik geef ook met plezier les aan jonge kinderen vanaf 5 jaar. Zo kan ik ze op een speelse wijze introduceren met muziek. Daarvoor gebruik ik de blokfluit, een erg goed instrument om mee te beginnen.
Naast lesgeven, ben ik ook actief als muzikant. Ik heb met verschillende projecten op een groot aantal festivals en clubs door heel Europa gespeeld. Dit was voornamelijk met de Athanasopoulos-Pin Quartet, waarmee ik ook twee albums heb opgenomen met onze eigen composities.
